Merriweather stays quiet. The mark in the menu bar carries its state, and the menu is a normal macOS menu. Beside the mark is the day's counted time, rounded to the engagement's tracking granularity.
Today and This Week show their time at the right. Pending time is time waiting on an answer from you: Merriweather asks, it does not guess.

The day, block by block.
Each block in the Ledger has a time, the engagement, what the work was, how Merriweather knows, and the time counted. It presumes your work carried on. It does not presume the work was billable.
Time it did not see is left blank, and it never guesses what happened in it. A correction changes how the Ledger reads the time, not what was seen. It keeps quantities of time, never prices.

Choose Listen and Remember in the menu. The mark turns orange and the live transcript opens. Speech is turned into text by Whisper on this Mac, and speakers are told apart on this Mac. There is no video and no screenshot.
After the meeting, the on-device model reads the transcript and picks out explicit commitments: the action, who owns it, and by when. Each one links to the moment it was said. Your own open items can stay in step with Reminders.
Meetings in the helpThe people, documents and projects around the work.
Knowledge lists the meetings Merriweather remembered. People is built from your meetings, the voice bank, and calendar attendees. Documents holds pages and files for the engagement, kept as Markdown with the original beside it. Projects are the workstreams. Known Terms are the names and acronyms as your engagement spells them, so transcripts spell them right.
Ask is early. It answers a question from what memory holds and shows the statements it rests on, each with how sure it is and where it came from.
Knowledge in the help
What your assistant learned, kept.
Assistants such as Claude Code read code and wikis and make changes. Most of what they learn is gone when the session ends. Merriweather gives them a journal to write it in: a folder of Markdown files in your account, one file per entry.
Each entry becomes a document in the engagement, marked as written by the assistant. Install the skill from Settings, or ask for a survey of a repository and get an Article back. Assistants write to the journal. Merriweather reads it. That is the whole connection.

What stays on the Mac
- Everything
The ledger, meetings, audio, transcripts, documents, memory, and the journal are files and a database in your account's Library folder. There is no Merriweather account, no cloud service, and no telemetry.
- On this Mac
Speech is turned into text by Whisper on this Mac. Speakers are told apart on this Mac. Understanding comes from Apple's on-device model, and the Ledger works without it. There is no cloud fallback.
- Never
It does not log keystrokes. It does not take screenshots or record video. It does not crawl in the background. It keeps no prices, currency, fees, or invoices. It does not label time it did not observe.
- Evidence
Evidence is kept by app or service, such as Slack, Email, or Browser, not as web addresses. It reads the title of the window in front to tell which app or service you are in. Those observations are deleted after 24 hours, and the Ledger keeps only the summary.
- The network
Only three things can reach it: the icon of a partner site you entered, a page you add to Documents by address, and the directory sign-in page if you use it. None of them go to us.
- Other people
Before you record anyone, you are responsible for telling them and getting their agreement where the law requires it. Merriweather helps you give notice, and the mark turns orange while it listens.
- Accounts
Each macOS account has its own copy of everything. Nothing crosses between accounts, or between engagements.
