What stays on your Mac, what Merriweather never does, and how to remove everything.

What stays on the Mac

Everything. The ledger, meetings, audio, transcripts, documents, memory, and the journal are files and a database in your account's Library folder. There is no Merriweather account, no cloud service, and no telemetry.

Speech is turned into text by Whisper on this Mac. Speakers are told apart on this Mac. Understanding comes from Apple's on-device model, and the Ledger works without it. There is no cloud fallback.

Each macOS account has its own copy of everything. Nothing crosses between accounts, or between engagements.

What it never does

  • It does not log keystrokes.
  • It does not take screenshots, continuous or otherwise, and it does not record video.
  • It does not crawl in the background.
  • It keeps no prices, currency, fees, or invoices. Time is kept as quantities.
  • It does not label time it did not observe.
  • Evidence is kept by app or service, such as Slack, Email, or Browser. It is not kept as web addresses.

It does read the title of the window in front, to tell which app or service you are in and to help the on-device model name the work. Those observations are held for 24 hours and then deleted. The Ledger keeps only the summary.

Raw transcripts are never rewritten by your corrections.

Microphone and system audio

The Microphone permission covers your side of a meeting. System Audio Recording covers the sound the Mac plays, which is the other side of a call. Merriweather uses them only for a meeting it is remembering: one you asked for, or one it started because automatic detection is on. That setting is on by default and visible, and the mark turns orange while it listens.

To notice a meeting, Merriweather checks only whether the microphone is in use. It does not hear anything before a meeting begins.

Before you record anyone, you are responsible for telling them and getting their agreement where the law requires it.

What can reach the network

Only these:

  • The icon of a partner or company site you entered, fetched when you save.
  • A page you add to Documents by address, and the pages that sign-in needs. A link in a journal entry is fetched the same way.
  • The directory sign-in page, if you use the Directory row in Settings.

Calendars and Reminders come from the accounts set up on your Mac. If those sync through iCloud or Google, that is your Mac's doing, and your own practice decides what leaves it.

Delete everything

There is no delete-everything button yet. Do this in each macOS account that used Merriweather:

  1. Choose Quit Merriweather.
  2. Drag the Merriweather folder out of ~/Library/Application Support to the Bin. It holds the ledger, meetings, audio, documents, journal, logos, and log.
  3. Delete the Merriweather lists in Reminders, if you used them.
  4. If you installed the Claude Code skill, delete ~/.claude/skills/merriweather.
  5. In System Settings, under Privacy & Security, remove Merriweather from each list. Under Login Items, remove it if it is there.
  6. Drag Merriweather out of Applications.

Sign-in cookies for documents are kept by the app's own web view, outside the Merriweather folder.
