Cookie Policy
draft · pending legal reviewThis Cookie Policy explains how Plausible Industries LLC ("Plausible Industries," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Merriweather website. It supplements the Merriweather Privacy Policy.
Short version: by default we set one first-party cookie, which remembers your cookie choice. Analytics cookies are set only if you opt in. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, analytics stays off. The Merriweather app itself does not use cookies to track you; it sends us nothing.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. "Similar technologies" include local storage, pixels and scripts that read or write data on your device. Here, "cookies" covers both.
2. Cookies we use
2.1 Strictly necessary
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cookie_consent |
[merriweather domain] (first party) | Records your analytics choice as analytics=granted or analytics=denied |
1 year |
It contains only your choice, is not used for tracking, and is not shared. The site has no accounts or logins, so there are no session or authentication cookies. Downloading the installer sets no cookie.
2.2 Analytics (only with your consent)
If you opt in, we load [Google Analytics 4 ("GA4")], provided by [Google LLC], to understand which pages are useful and how many people download the app. It sets:
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google, on [merriweather domain] | Distinguishes visitors for analytics | Up to 2 years from your last visit |
_ga_<id> |
Google, on [merriweather domain] | Maintains session state for our GA4 property | Up to 2 years from your last visit |
We configure GA4 with IP anonymisation requested, Google signals disabled and ad personalisation signals disabled, and set data retention to [14] months. Cookie lifetime (above) and data retention in Google's systems are separate settings.
[If the site ships with no analytics, delete 2.2 and the analytics options in Section 3, and keep only the strictly necessary cookie, or drop the banner entirely if no cookie is set at all.]
2.3 What we do not use
No advertising cookies, third-party ad network cookies, social media pixels, cross-site tracking, session recording or fingerprinting. Typefaces are served from our own host and set no cookies.
3. Your choices
3.1 Consent banner
On your first visit we show Accept all, Reject non-essential (the default) and Customize. Doing nothing is treated as rejecting. Analytics runs only on the live site, not on test or preview copies.
3.2 Changing your mind
Use "Manage cookie preferences" in the footer of every page. If you withdraw consent, analytics stops loading from your next page view; cookies already set remain until they expire or you delete them in your browser.
3.3 Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a GPC signal, analytics does not load, the
banner is not shown, analytics=denied is stored in cookie_consent,
and GPC overrides any earlier choice. We also treat GPC as a request to
opt out of "sale" or "sharing" under California law, although we do
neither.
3.4 Browser controls
Most browsers let you view, delete and block cookies: Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge.
4. Legal basis (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
The cookie_consent cookie is strictly necessary to provide the consent
mechanism you are using. Analytics cookies are set only with your
consent, as required by the ePrivacy Directive, UK PECR and the GDPR.
5. Changes
We will update this Policy if the cookies we use change. If we add a new category of non-essential cookie, we will ask for your consent again before setting it.
